The Space

The Inn on Jefferson is a 135+ year old home in Heritage Hill that’s been remodeled and is located just steps from all the action in downtown Grand Rapids!

The Barlow Suite has two bedrooms (a king and a queen), bath w/shower, full kitchen, dining room, large living room with work area, off-street parking and much more!

High-Speed Internet

We hate slow internet service when we travel. So, in The Barlow Suite we installed Comcast Business Internet, paying for the highest internet speed they offered.

While we cannot control (or guarantee) the internet speed on any given day or time, we regularly measure download speeds between 200-300mbps – or higher depending on your device.

Device Charging Stations

Can’t get enough phone or tablet time? In addition to the Uplift desk, both nightstands in the Master Bedroom have a power station to plug in devices (both USB and AC) – and so does the dresser in the Queen Bedroom!

Ultimate Work Station

We also hate not having a great place to work while on the road! So, in The Barlow Suite we created the ultimate work space in your home away from home!


First, we installed an Uplift desk. This is a fully adjustable desk that can be used while sitting or standing. It’s all electric, so it will go up and down at the touch of a button.


Secondly, if you want to sit while you work, we’ve included a Herman Miller Aeron Chair for your comfort. There are four AC outlets built into the desktop along with an adjustable lamp.


In addition, the Uplift desk features a charging station that allows you to charge all your devices! You can charge 3 Android, 2 newer iOS and 1 older iOS devices at the same time!

Full Kitchen with Appliances

We’ve stocked the kitchen with virtually any tool you’ll need to cook a meal or snack. The appliances include a refrigerator, oven/stove, microwave, dishwasher (just leave the dirty dishes in there – we’ll run it for you).


Our Keurig is ready to go if you want coffee or tea – all included at no charge!

Bathroom + Laundry

The walk-in shower includes a dispenser containing shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Please note – there is no bath tub – just the shower.


We even have a washer and dryer with all the supplies, ready for your use!

We are the closest Heritage Hill home to the heart of downtown – you can easily walk to Van Andel Arena, the Downtown Market, DeVos Place, GRCC, Spectrum Health, Saint Mary’s Hospital, The B.O.B, Founders Brewing, The Intersection, 20 Monroe Live, The Children’s Museum, The UICA, The GRAM – and more restaurants and bars than we can list!

Ready for some great food? Located in a hot and diverse neighborhood, just outside your door you’ll find restaurants specializing in Thai, Chinese, Indian, Lebanese, Pizza, Hot Dogs and more.

The entire lower unit of our fully remodeled and updated home is yours during your stay. The only exception is that a supply closet and access to the basement will be locked during your stay. The unit is completely self-contained and no access is shared with the upper unit.

Access The Barlow Suite with your four-digit code for use on both the front and back doors. No smart phone or apps needed!

You will not need to meet up with anyone to pick up a key and get in the Inn!

Please note that we have always cleaned to very exacting standards. Now we are going further with enhanced protocols using CDC recommendations.

In addition we are including a 24 hour buffer between stays. This means that you will never be booked less than 24 hours after the previous guest departs.

MINIMUM STAY – due to the 24 hour buffer between guests, we now must require a 2 night minimum stay. This is required because the 24 hour buffer costs us the availability of one night every time someone books with us.

While our home is in the heart of the city, you’ll enjoy a great nights sleep in the quiet bedrooms where room darkening drapes block out almost all the light!

There are two units in the 135+ year old house: The Barlow Suite (this unit) on the first floor and The Maple Suite on the second floor. The Maple Suite is only used as an office for the owners. Most likely we will never be there when you stay with us – but it is possible in which case you will hear walking noise and so forth, above you.

The old brick building behind the house holds two very modern, completely new units: The Lehigh Suite and The Drumlin Suite. Both are available on AIrbnb! This building does not touch the house – so you won’t hear noise from these units. Guests using these units WILL park in their designated space, be coming and going in the driveway, etc.

The official Airbnb guest who books is 100% responsible for anyone in the house or on the property while they are staying at The Inn on Jefferson. You must make sure your family, friends and guests understand and abide by the House Rules!

Especially important are these two rules:

There is ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING allowed in the house or on the property. This means no smoking of any kind including vaping, e-cigarettes and anything else whether legal or not. In addition, no burning of incense or anything else that will alter the smell of the house! You are free to make cookies – they smell great! If you cannot abide by this rule – please DO NOT book!

Quiet time is required from 11PM to 8AM! If you can’t abide by this rule, please DO NOT book!

Guests who break these rules will be asked to leave, additional nights will be canceled and they will be reported to Airbnb.

While we don’t have a front desk and only have three units – The Inn on Jefferson is a licensed hotel and as such we are NOT subject to the Short-Term rental ordinance. We are fully authorized to host guests for one night or many nights. Our Hotel License Number is: HM-17-0029

Please be aware that Grand Rapids has a strict “short-term” rental ordinance. Any home in the City of Grand Rapids that is offered on AirBnB is not legal unless they post their license number.

Short-Term Licenses are not given out to any homeowner offering the entire place for rent. Only primary residences, with the owner at home, are allowed to rent out a single room.

The ordinance requires a Home Occupation Class B License. Here are the first two requirements:

“An owner-occupied dwelling (no renters) in which a single room, couch, or other sleeping area is rented to no more than two adult guests overnight”.

“The dwelling must be the principal residence of the owner-operator and the owner-operator shall be in residence when renting”.

Be aware that booking a home that doesn’t have a license could be at risk for cancellation should the City of Grand Rapids force them to stop renting. The Inn on Jefferson is fully licensed and legal!

To obtain our hotel license, the Inn on Jefferson has been thoroughly inspected and approved by all the required departments in city. There is no increased cost to you for the comfort of staying in a licensed hotel! Airbnb collects the Michigan Use Tax and the Kent County Hotel Tax from all guests for any property in Grand Rapids – whether it’s a licensed hotel or not.
